Thailand, oh wonderful Thailand!! It was my first travel out of Europe. The first time I went there was in the far February 1992 and I returned there seven months later. I REMEMBER woke up my father in the night and I told him I was going to London keeping secret my real intentions. I was not informed enough to know that Bankgok should be considered only the point of arrival.
I was based at the Royal hotel in Bangkok. Unfortunately this hotel, few months later, became the scenario of a terrible massacre performed by the Army against many students.
I still remember Bangkok as one of the hottest cities in the world, after Karachi and Abu Dabhi. But especially I remember the disgusting foul smell when I went out from the international airport. Bleahhh!
In 1992, Thailand was a touristic place of course, but not so crowded as now. For a man like me who hates crowded destinations, Thailand is a now nation not included in my future travel plans.
This is one of the most safe places in the world, nice people, cheap life, good food and a mitigate climate. The best season to visit Thailand is between the months of December and March when the rain is a rare event.
