In the heart of the southern Italian, in the region Apulia, there is a very special place and unique in its style.

The trulli of Alberobello are a unique complex of dry stone dwellings with conical roofs, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. They are one of the most iconic symbols of Puglia and a truly special place to visit.

Trulli are limestone buildings built without mortar, with white walls and conical roofs made of overlapping slabs (chianche or chiancarelle). This technique derives from ancient dry-stone building traditions, dating back to prehistoric times.

Many roofs feature white symbols of religious or magical significance and a decorative pinnacle that, according to tradition, served to protect the house from bad luck.

According to historical tradition, in the 14th-15th century farmers were forced to build easily dismantled houses to avoid the taxes imposed by the Kingdom of Naples: the dry technique allowed the building to be quickly demolished in the event of a tax inspection.

Alberobello is a place straight out of a fairytale:

unique architecture, white and luminous atmosphere, narrow alleys and evocative views, fascinating history of myth, ingenuity, and tradition

The city is divided into two main districts:

Rione Monti – the most famous and touristy area, with over 1,000 trulli, shops, and artisan workshops. It is the most photographed and scenic area.

Rione Aia Piccola – more authentic and quiet, with about 400 trulli still inhabited by residents. Perfect for seeing daily life in the trulli.
