Italy, Trani – Alleys

Trani is undoubtedly a splendid city on the Adriatic Sea in Puglia, famous above all for its Romanesque cathedral, its mysterious and clean alleys, its historic port, and its medieval center. It is often called “the Pearl of Puglia.”

Trani’s alleys are the narrow streets of the medieval old town, characterized by pale stone, irregular curves, and sudden openings onto the sea or small squares. They are one of the city’s most iconic features, naturally connecting the port, the Cathedral, and historic neighborhoods like Giudecca, famous for its “fishbone” layout.

The alleys of Trani:

They are ancient medieval streets built in light-colored limestone, typical of the city and maintain an irregular urban layout, designed to protect from the wind and sun;

They offer evocative views through arches, hidden courtyards, and sudden glimpses of the sea and represent the authentic heart of the city, best experienced on foot.

Their atmosphere is described as a maze of bright streets descending towards the water, an integral part of Trani’s visual identity.

Trani is also famous for:

Trani stone, a pale limestone widely used in architecture; Trani Moscato wine and for its elegant and tranquil atmosphere compared to other Apulian cities.
